looking over the edge

On an 11 story cruise ship, slipping thru the landscape, the still waters of inland passages.  Haunting and absurd at the same time.  All the comforts and protections from the elements while looking out at untouched wilderness.  I found myself looking over the edge, patterns of waves caused by the ship and whatever floated by.  Mesmerizing.
